Servicing Your Lawn Mower Do’s and Don’ts

Even though I know that keeping my lawnmower properly serviced is the key to its long life of reliable mowing service, I don’t do it. It’s messy, I don’t know how to do it, I don’t want to do it, and its hard work because my old Ariens lawn mower weighs a ton. So I let it go for several years (the longest was 7 years between oil changes and servicing!!) before I break down and find someone willing to schlep it to a mower place where they’ll do it for me. Those wonderful guys who come to your place to do this work don’t exist out here.

For many parts of the country, lawn-mowing season is winding down and it’s a good idea to service your mower before you put it away for the winter.

Anyway, because you’re reading this, I know you’re a better mower owner than I am. So I found this short little article that you’ll probably find of interest.  eBayer 2tommys56 talks about the right kind of oil to use, and what kinds of dangers really lurk behind the innocent face of your mower.  Like how you can easily, but really don’t want to, turn your lawn mower into da bomb…

The biggest problem I see when I go to someone’s house to repair their mower that isn’t working is they don’t service it or didn’t do it right. OIL= Oil selection is VERY important. You shouldn’t use oils that have paraffin in them.  How do you know? Pour some oil out of the bottle and look at it. …   Click here for rest of article.
